Get Outside and Get Active!
Nothing beats a day spent outside! This summer, take advantage of the warm weather and New York City’s parks, playgrounds, and outdoor activities to get some sunshine and make sure your body stays moving. Here are some free and low cost activities to try!
- Love the water? Give kayaking a try! Whether you live in Manhattan or the Bronx, there are some great opportunities to get out and get paddling. In Manhattan, the Manhattan Community Boathouse offers free kayak rentals and classes five days a week through the end of August. In the Bronx, the Bronx River Alliance offers free and low cost paddling trips on the Bronx River.
- Rather take a leisurely stroll? New York City has more than 1,700 parks full of walking trails and beautiful green space for you to explore! Pack a picnic and spend the day in Crotona Park, take the ferry out to Governor’s Island and explore the art installations, or catch a movie under the stars in Bryant Park. The city is yours to explore!
- Into group fitness? The NYC Parks Department offers tons of fun exercise classes to get your heart pumping! Try West African Dance at Inwood Hill Park, get your zen on with Yoga in the Garden at Wave Hill, or work up a sweat at Bryant Park Pilates. The best part? They’re all free!
- Want to get away from the city for a little bit? Take the MetroNorth to the Garrison Station and spend a day hiking in Hudson Highlands State Park.
